Make Your Own Fun

By: Alyssa Ruffolo

While many young people complain that there is nothing to do in the Bucks County area, there are many great activities in the area and summer opens up the door to so many more possibilities. There are many parks great for hiking in the area such as Tamanend Park, Tyler Park, Warminster Park, Northampton Park, Peace Valley Park, Pennypack, Central Park, Wissahickon, and many more. Walking in the park is a great way to get in some early morning cardio. You could also rent a canoe or kayak if you are feeling up to it. Then there are several small town/ shopping areas in and around Bucks County to walk around and visit, including New Hope, Hatboro, Peddler’s Village, Jennkintown, and Doylestown. There are several outlets close by as well. If you are of age, Parx Casino can be a great place to drink, gamble, listen to live music, and socialize with friends. There is a movie tavern located in Flourtown, PA, where you and a friend/partner can eat and drink while you watch your favorite new film.

Luckily Bucks County is located close enough to the city of Philadelphia, where there are many more activities to do as well. If you like history, you might want to take a day trip and explore the Historic District. If you want to take a stroll down to South Street in South Philadelphia, there are plenty of trendy new restaurants, stores, and bars to stop in and visit. Spruce Harbor Park, also located in South Philadelphia, is a waterfront park with hammocks strung between trees, romantic lights, food trucks, beach chairs, and nets you can lounge in which hang right over the water. Magic Gardens and Love Park are also scenic places to see in Philly. There are also a plethora of concert venues, sports arenas, and museums in the city to go visit.

If you are really broke and don’t want to be spending any money, RoadsideAmerica.com has some great, bizarre sights in your area. From supposedly haunted houses, to abandoned trains, to hundred-year-old stone structures, PA has it all – even right in Bucks County! WeirdNJ.com is another good website to visit for some interesting attractions close by. So, next time you are bored and you feel like there is absolutely nothing to do, get a little creative, try something new. There is so much to do right here in and around Bucks County – especially with warm weather right around the corner!

  1. Great post! I lived in Doylestown briefly back around the year 2000 and I have a lot of really great memories of it and the surrounding area. I still think fondly back on the year I lived there. I would love to live there again someday, but, alas, I doubt I ever will. Bucks County is far and away more interesting and exciting than North Texas, where I live now. Thanks for a great post and for giving me a trip down memory lane!
